Student Handbook 2014-2015
Student Behavior Code
Lunch Room Behavior
I agree that it is a student’s job to help keep the cafeteria clean. I agree to pick up after others, if necessary and myself. I agree to treat the cooks, custodians, and lunchroom supervisors with respect.
Recess Behavior
I agree to go outside for recess when asked to. I agree to exit the building for recess in an orderly manner, and to stay on the sidewalk until I reach the playground. I agree to not bring any food or drink outside. I will bring appropriate clothes so that I am dressed appropriately for the weather. I agree to play safely outside. I agree to put away the recess equipment and to line up when the bell rings. I agree that once I enter the building, I will walk quietly in the hallways.
Dress Code
I understand the dress code. I agree to all of the expectations explained to me regarding appropriate and inappropriate clothing for school. I agree not to wear hats, pants that hang so low that my underwear shows, or shirts that reveal my midriff or my chest or tank tops. I agree to not wear sandals, shorts, or skirts above the knee after Teachers’ Convention in October or prior to Spring Break. Simply put, I agree to dress appropriately for a formal setting such as school.
Cell phones/Electronic Devices
I understand that I am not allowed to have cell phones with me during the day. I agree to not use my cell phone within the building unless specific permission to use the phone has been granted by a school staff member.
Bus
I agree to follow all school bus rules. I agree to ride only my school bus, and to sit in an assigned seat if one is given. I agree to treat the bus driver and all student riders with respect. I agree to be seated while the bus is moving. I agree not to use inappropriate language on the bus. I agree to not eat, drink, or chew gum on the bus.
Gum
I agree not to chew gum on school property during normal school hours. I understand that this includes lunch and recess time.
Respect of Property
I agree to be respectful of school property, handle school-owned items with care, and keep our school facilities clean. I agree to treat my own school materials with care, and leave things that don’t belong to me alone.
Language
I understand that I must use appropriate language while in school, on the school bus, on school grounds, or at any school function. I agree not to use any of the obvious swear words. I also agree not to use words that sound like other swear words, and to keep my conversation appropriate for a formal setting such as school.
Assembly Behavior
I agree to all of the expectations explained to me regarding appropriate assembly behavior. This includes listening to directions for the assembly, walking down the hallway and entering the gym in an orderly fashion, behaving appropriately at the assembly, remaining positive and attentive during the assembly, and applauding appropriately.
Bullying
I fully understand and agree that bullying can be physical or verbal, and can even occur by excluding someone from a group. I agree not to be a bully. Additionally, I agree that I can be a part of the solution by helping victims out.
Hallways
I agree to walk safely down hallways. I agree I will not run down hallways, and that I will not push/shove other students. I agree that I will keep to the right side of the hallway, and stay in a single file line if I am traveling with my homeroom. I understand that I must be quiet when I am in the hallways, and move purposely to my next destination.
Classroom Activities
I understand that teachers will use a wide variety of ways to teach various lessons. I agree to fully participate in lectures, classroom discussion, note taking, class study time, silent reading, projects, labs, and all other activities that take place in the classroom. I agree that refusing to participate is not an option.
I understand that as a student at Brookwood Middle School I am responsible for following the codes above without exception or argument.
